The Living Space
The living area is a large American-style open-plan room with lovely light from two electric roof skylights and french windows. It is split into three areas - two three seater settees around the TV, a seagrass suite around the wood burning stove and an open area - good for rolling about with kids. We have a new flat-screen 2020 LG TV with access to Netflix, Amazon Prime, YouTube, BBC iPlayer etc. We have been collecting furniture made from driftwood and there is a clock, drawers and cupboard – very Alice in Wonderland-like. The wood burning stove is easy to use – best to get firelighters – kindling and logs are provided.
Bedroom 1
There are four bedrooms upstairs. We have a new bedroom 1 built in 2022 with en-suite and a lounging balcony. It has a super-king sized twin-lock bed that can alternatively be split into two twin beds - lie in bed and watch the sea whilst listening to psychadelic music on the Google Mini smart-speaker. There are two electric skylights with electric blinds - they close automatically when raining. There is a wardrobe with plenty of hangers. There is good space on the balcony - we have two arondek chairs with footstools - enough space for 5/6 people with drinks. There is a lovely ensuite bathroom. Overall very airy.
Bedroom 2
The second bedroom is large with new fabulous en-suite built in 2022. It has a queen-size bed. There is plenty of wardrobe and drawer space. There is a desk/chair for general use eg dressing table but can also be used for remote working. There is a chaise longue – good for lazing and reading. Lovely views over the adjacent woodland.
The Kitchen - cooking/dining
The modern kitchen has granite worktops, ceramic hob cooker, modern oven, two fridges for families, microwave and dishwasher. There are plenty of utensils, glasses etc. The coffee machine does very nice expresso/cappuccino. There is an adjoining utility room containing a washing machine and instant hot water boiler controlled by an easy to use Nest thermostat.. This leads to the downstairs loo. There is an 8 person dining table. There is a voice activated Google max speaker which is good for listening to music via Spotify. The kitchen links to the breakfast room (see below).
Kitchen - breakfast room
The Breakfast room is a second area within the overall kitchen space. There is a lounging suite leading via French windows to the patio area with Weber gas BBQ. Very convenient for preparing food and moving it outside for those balmy Cornish evenings. The suite has two armchairs and a two seater sofa. There is a wall mounted LG TV with all the usual channels including Netflix, Apple, Prime etc. There is a full size foldaway table tennis table for serious tournament play during your holiday - you will need to carefully move the furniture to make way for it.
Bathrooms
All three bathrooms have been recently renovated. The ensuite in Bedroom 1 has basin, toilet and walk-in shower; the ensuite in Bedroom 2 is large and has hers/his basins; walkin-in shower and toilet; the shared bathroom for the other two bedrooms has a bath, walk-in shower, toilet and basin. All have heated towel rails. Fancy splashbacks and modern wall coverings are in abundance.
Bedroom 3
The third bedroom is also big – it has twin beds, drawers/wardrobe space and a driftwood mirror. The beds are new in 2023 - they can be zip-locked together to form a king. Again, beautiful views over woodland.
Bedroom 4
The small bedroom has a bed that can either be a single, two singles or a double. It has a mattress underneath that can be pulled out. I suggest that this is ok for kids and adults that know each other very well. It has a built-in wardobe and cupboards.
Outside
Chough Cottage is situated on a quiet private road called Ludon. The drive has ample parking for four-plus cars. The garden adjacent to the house is set to lawn and is a real sun trap. We also own the grassy area to the left of the house and the cliff behind (1/3 acre). This has a lot of wild flowers and three benches – the top bench is up some steps – which all have great views of the valley and the sea. Running up the garden is great for a hit class. Sunloungers and deckchairs are provided. There are some surfboards – one big and two small – I’ve never managed it but feel free to try at your own risk. There are also some old body-boards which you are free to use
House Structure
We have two staircases - we like to call it the North and South wings LOL. The North wing has Bedroom 1 and the balcony overlooking the sea. The South wing has the other three bedrooms overlooking woodland. The house is spacious, overall about 4000 sq ft.
All linen and towels are supplied by our property manager. Cleaning is included in the price so don’t spend hours cleaning before you leave.
No smoking inside the house.
